With ONE FC ‘Return of Warriors’ set for the 15,000 capacity Putra Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on February 2nd the Singapore based promotion has understandably been focusing on Malaysia of late but it appears the rest of the continent has not been forgotten.
ONE FC today announced that it would be holding 12 events in 2013 as well as two more ONE Asia MMA Summits. At present the February show is the only one to have been officially announced but, according to promotional sources, multiple events have already been booked in Manila, Jakarta, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Japan.
The ONE Asia MMA Summit took place in June 2012 with around 250 of the key stakeholders in the Asian MMA industry gathering at the iconic Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore. According to the ONE FC twitter there will be two more of these summits in 2013 to be held again Singapore.
The ONE Asia MMA Summit saw the biggest players in Asian MMA such sponsors, media, gym owners, and industry leaders such as Evolve MMA owner, Chatri Sityodtong, URCC co-founder Bubbles Aguilar, Road FC owner Moon Hung Jong and DREAM Executive Producer Sasahara Keiichi hosted by ONE FC in Singapore and spend two days at the most expensive casino resort in the world discussing the future of Asian MMA.
Industry insiders have described the summit as a seminal moment in the history of Asian MMA and the news that ONE FC intend to hold two more of these invitation only events in 2013 shows just how seriously CEO Victor Cui is taking the development of the ‘ONE FC Network’.
Last year ONE FC established itself as the biggest MMA promotion in Asia with events in sold out stadiums in Singapore, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Manila and the signing of a historic ten year media partnership with ESPN Star Sports that makes it available to viewers in 28 countries across the continent.
ONE FC was also the only Asian organization shortlisted for ‘Promotion of the Year’ at the traditionally US-centric World MMA Awards recently where Cui was also nominated as the ‘Man of the Year’. This year will see ONE FC introduce national titles with a four man tournament getting underway next month to crown the first ever MMA champion of Malaysia.
With 90% of Asia’s top fighters signed to exclusivity with ONE FC and the Network, no other Asian promotion would be capable of putting on so many shows in such a variety of countries. With this year’s schedule close to completion ONE FC staff are already looking ahead to 2014 when they plan to put on 24 events in cities all over the continent and beyond.
